Teenager Charged After Purse Snatching Incident Downtown

Police said a 17-year-old boy ran by the patio at Paul Gregory's and stole a purse, attempting to flee down the bike trail along Center Street.

A Southington teen police said was involved in a purse snatching incident in downtown Southington area is now facing charges after he was arrested Wednesday in connection with a lunchtime incident along Center Street.

The 17-year-old Southington resident was located shortly after the incident with help of witnesses, police said, and booked on charges of sixth-degree larceny, breach of peace and interfering with an officer. He was released into the custody of his mother after posting a $10,000 bond.

The teenager is due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on June 27, according to police.

Police said dispatchers received a call from a local woman Wednesday afternoon just before 1 p.m. who reported that the teenager had run by and taken her purse while she and a coworker were eating lunch at Paul Gregory's on Center Street.

Witnesses told police he was seen running towards the bike trail following the snatching. Officers found the teenager hiding in a bush near a tranformer behind the YMCA on High Street.
