Two Area Teens Charged in September Robbery

Police said 18-year-old Isaac Burgos and a 17-year-old Southington boy scammed a local resident then threatened to use a knife against him if he tried to get his money back.

Two area teenagers are facing charges of robbery after police said they scammed an 18-year-old victim out of $60 outside a Main Street convenience store earlier this month and then threatened to attack him with a large knife if he tried to get the money back.

Officers took Isaac N. Burgos, of 29 Colt St. in New Britain, and a 17-year-old Southington boy into custody on a warrant Wednesday after the two turned themselves in to police. Both were booked on charges of second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.

Burgos is also facing sixth-degree larceny for his role in taking the money from the victim and second-degree larceny because he took it directly from a person, police said.

Police said the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 outside the , 212 Main St., when Burgos and the 17-year-old boy approached the victim and asked him if he had change for a $50 bill.

“The victim had about $60 dollars on him at the time and took out his money to get change, but Burgos allegedly took the money and told the victim he was not going to give him the $50,” said Sgt. Lowell DePalma.

The victim then began to approach the boys to demand his money back when police said the 17-year-old boy pulled out a silver knife and threatened to use it “if the victim took another step towards them,” DePalma said.

The victim retreated to the where he and his father called police, DePalma said.

Both Burgos and the 17-year-old were released after posting $50,000 bonds and are due in Bristol Superior Court for arraignment on Oct. 3.
