Two Charged in Firearms Theft at JATH Manufacturing

Southington police said Wednesday that a three-month investigation in partnership with ATF led them to two local residents, but the guns still have not been located.

Two Southington residents are facing charges and the investigation continues into the theft of firearms stolen from the JATH Manufacturing Company on Mt. Vernon Road earlier this year.

Police this week arrested Gary York, 38, and Joanne Delfino, 37, both of Southington, in connection with the August firearms thefts.

York, who is currently serving a sentence in connection with a larceny, accepted a plea deal on Nov. 22 and pled guilty to one count of theft of firearms. He was given a 731-day sentence with a parole hearing for various charges after 35 months.

Delfino was arraigned in Bristol Superior Court on charges of theft of firearms and conspiracy to commit theft of firearms. She has not entered a plea to charges and remains in state custody in lieu of a $25,000 bond, according to court records.

“In August of 2013, four handguns of various makes and calibers were stolen from a safe in the office of JATH Manufacturing,” Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said. “ An investigation followed, which included the combined efforts of the Southington Police Narcotics Enforcement Team, Greater New Britain Shooting Task Force and the ATF.”

Dobratz said York and Delfino were acquaintances with the owner and had access to the company inventory at the time of the thefts.

The stolen guns have not been located and this continues to be an active investigation. Further details of the case were not immediately available.
