(Updated) One Dead, Another Injuried in Meriden Avenue Crash
A pick-up truck crashed head first into a tree on Meriden Avenue Thursday, killing the driver and injuring the passenger in a one-car accident.
One person is dead and another person has been taken by Lifestar helicopter to Hartford Hospital following a one vehicle accident on Meriden Avenue in Southington late Thursday afternoon.
Southington police confirmed Thursday night that a truck driven by an unnamed driver collided head-on with a tree in the area of Scenic Drive. The driver was killed in the accident and a passenger also suffered injuries, leaving them in "critical condition," dispatchers said.
The accident occurred just before 3 p.m. and members of the Southington Police Department's accident reconstruction team were called to the scene to investigate. The road remained closed into the early evening but reopened around 7 p.m., police said.
Further details of the crash were not immediately made available as the investigation continues and police look to get in touch with the families.
