Vehicle Violations Keep Police Busy

There has been a small number of arrests in recent days, but officers remain busy with motor vehicle violations.

Despite arrest logs that have relatively light in recent days, police have remained busy on Southington’s roads while citing more than 50 people with various motor vehicle violations since last Thursday, according to records released on the department’s Facebook page.

The greater majority of the citations issued have been related to distracted driving, particularly those who continue to use cell phones while driving.

“It’s a proactive effort,” Southington Police Sgt. Lowell DePalma said earlier this year. “We’d rather stop them before something happens and we need to respond to a tragedy.”

The reported 14 motor vehicle violations Wednesday, including 8 cell phone violations, and one arrest citation:

Nicholas A. Salmieri, 18, of 154 Atwater St. in Plantsville, was charged with failure to drive right, evading responsibility, possession of alcohol by a minor and operating a motor vehicle without insurance, Sept. 20.
