VIDEO: Southington Women in Serious Condition After Fall at Beseck Mountain in Middlefield

Firefighters from nearby towns help in rescue efforts for Southington, Middletown women.

Two women suffered non-life threatening injuries after falling from a cliff on Beseck Mountain in Middlefield late Tuesday night, according to authorities.

The victims, said to be in their early 20s, were rushed to Hartford Hospital after being pulled to the top of the mountain by firefighters early Wednesday morning. According to an Associated Press report, the women were Tiffany Maxfield, 20, of Southington and Lauren Pinto, 22, of Middletown.

Members of the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the top of the mountain, at the end of Kickapoo Lane, shortly after midnight, after receiving a call from state police, according to Middlefield Fire Chief Pete Tyc.

Middletown and Meriden fire departments were also called to help with the rescue.

Due to the dangerous terrain of the area, it took firefighters nearly two hours to bring the first victim to the top of the mountain using a safety harness. She was immediately taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The second victim was pulled up at 3 a.m. before being taken away to the hospital, where they were listed in stable, but serious condition.

A state police official said both victims were conscious when they reached the top of the mountain.

They fell about 50 feet, authorities said.

Police questioned at least one person in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
