Connecticut Food Stamp Growth Outpaces Jobs
The increase in the number of food stamp recipients is about 50 percent more than the state's job growth in recent years.

The increase in the number of people signing up for food stamps in Connecticut is outpacing job growth here by about 50 percent.
Since 2011 the state has added about 56,700 new food stamp recipients, while it has added about 38,000 new private-sector jobs, the Journal Inquirer reports.
The rolls of the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps, climbed from 338,290 in 2011 to approximately 395,000 by May of 2013, the JI reports.
Nationally, jobs growth has outpaced food stamp increases. The number of people getting food stamps in the U.S. increased by 3.4 million people since 2011 while the country added 4.6 million jobs, the newspaper reports.
