DMV Hours for Columbus Day

The DMV closes early Friday for Columbus Day and reopens Tuesday.

If you need to get your license renewed, don’t forget it’s a holiday weekend. Department of Motor Vehicles offices will close Friday, Oct. 7, at 12:30 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, Oct.11, at 7:45 a.m. in recognition of the Columbus Day federal holiday.

When you do go, be prepared to stand in line. A new federal identification option called SeleCT ID just went into effect, causing delays in processing. The new option allows you to use your license, marked with a gold star, for identification in situations like boarding a plane or entering a federal building.

If you choose SeleCT ID, you will need documents such as a birth certificate, passport, proof of a social security number and proof of your current address. If you choose to get a regular license, it will be marked as not for federal identification. Either way, the cost is $66 for a six-year renewal.
