Emergency Alert System Will Provide Messages to Residents

In the wake of a storm that left some roads impassable for 48 hours, Southington is taking new precautions to make sure communication is clear and easily available for those in the community.

When a blizzard left more than three feet of snow on parts of Southington in February, many local residents expressed frustration that they spent days wondering when, or even if, they would be freed from the grip of snow.

Although there were updates available on the town's website, many local residents and even public officials expressed concerns that the lack of communication left many in town with fear and anxiety should they be left in an emergency situation.

“One thing was clear, we need better communication and to find a get to get the word out,” said Southington Town Councilman John Barry. “In the future, we need to have better communication with the residents and this is one way that could help.”

Now the town is taking action to make sure residents have multiple options when it comes to staying informed.
