Ethics Board Debating Merits of Recently Filed Complaint

Officials remain hushed on what is contained within the complaint, but the Southington Board of Ethics took time Wednesday to meet in executive session to review the complaint.

Few details are available, but a recently filed ethics complaint has kick started the process as members of the Board of Ethics attempt to determine if they should move forward in debating the issue.

Southington Town Attorney Mark Sciota confirmed Wednesday that members of the Board of Ethics met behind closed doors for an executive session to review the complaint, saying it’s the first step in a process to determine if further action should be taken.

Details of the complaint have not been released and although there have been a few rumors in the community, officials were unable to confirm any reports.

“As part of the process, the complaint is to remain confidential until such time that the board determines there is evidence enough to move forward,” Sciota said. “At that time, if such a decision is made, a public hearing would be held and details could be made public.”

Sciota was unable to discuss the matter further, saying no decisions were made during Wednesday’s review session.

If the board should determine there is no merit to the complaint, the details would remain confidential under the town’s policy. Southington Patch will provide additional details as they become available.
