Why did you run for office?
I believe that students are the future of our country and it is vital to provide our children with the best education possible in order to ensure a better future for us all.

I have first-hand experience with the Southington school system. I have experienced the good and the bad, dedicated teachers, oversized classrooms, adjusting to renovations, special needs issues, motivating kids. I believe my business experience combined with my experience in the schools during my children’s elementary years provides me with skills that I can offer to the Board of Education to improve our already superior school system. I also believe if you have the ability to give back to your community, you should do so.

If elected, what would be your primary areas of focus?
If elected I would focus on classroom sizes and equity of services provided to all students. I believe all children should have access to services that are applicable to them regardless of their skill level ranging from, but not limited to, tutors and the gifted and talented.

What do you feel is the biggest issue facing Southington today?
I believe the biggest issue facing Southington is the ability to maintain the current budget with an anticipated budget short fall next year of $1.6 million and teacher increases both needing to be supported. I believe my auditing and business experience will be ideal for analyzing the budget and helping to find innovative ways of supporting our students.

What skills do you have that you could bring to the community?
I have an extensive accounting background. I was an auditor with Price Waterhouse and the controller for two multi-million dollar companies. As controller I was responsible for the budgeting process and accountable for the variances. I am also the mother of two middle school aged children and was the treasurer of their parent teacher organization for five years. I believe these skills and experiences make me a logical choice for the Board of Education.

Anything else you would like to share?
The Southington school system has a wonderful reputation and is the main reason my husband and I moved here 15 years ago. I would be honored to serve in a capacity to maintain and enhance our schools if elected.
