Meet the Democrat: Sandra Feld

A look at Sandra Feld, Democratic candidate for Southington Board of Finance.

"Meet the Candidates" is a feature on Southington Patch designed to help you get to know your local candidates before you take to the polls this November. Each profile was submitted directly by the candidate.

Take a moment to review each profile so you can be informed and prepared when you go to the polls on Nov. 8.

This week, we begin looking at the Board of Finance candidates. Be sure to look back at the Town Council, which we featured last week, and stay informed.

Name:
Sandra Feld
Age:
39+
Party, Position Seeking:
Democrat, Southington Board of Finance

Family information:
I have five grown, married children and nine grandchildren.

Occupation:
Finance Manager; Former School Teacher; Paralegal.

Political Experience:
Charter Revision Commissions, 2006 and 2008; Founder, Concerned Southington Citizens; Board Member, Federation of Connecticut Taxpayer Organizations.

Other Experience:
Regular Participant in Town Council, Board of Finance, Public Works, Sewer and Building Maintenance Committee meetings.

Why did you run for office?
1) Comments from residents, like the following, make it clear that change is desired:  “Our town is currently being run as a dictatorship and no one is noticing…”

2) Can’t risk another ditch-the-Senior-bus proposal from an appointed (not elected) Board of Finance member. Balancing low taxes with regular maintenance of town.

3) To avoid another arbitrary, Town Council majority plan to give away North Center School for $1 without either Board of Finance review or town referendum.

If elected, what would be your primary areas of focus?
1) Among other things, increasing revenue: nothing has been done for the last two years about smart investing of our surplus.

2) Balancing low taxes with regular maintenance via a real capital improvement plan for the next 20 years.

What do you feel is the biggest issue facing Southington today?
Restoring all town boards to democratic-style government debate and discussion.

What skills do you have that you could bring to the community?
Will work with Independents, Democrats and Republicans to do what is best for Southington regardless of party affiliation. The Board of Finance sets an example for other town boards by its non-partisan behavior, always considering what is best for our town.
