Southington Cuts Costs of Summer Road Work

Town will see savings by partnering with Meriden on crack-sealing bid.

Southington roads are about to get smoother and for less than originally anticipated.

The town plans to spend $56,382 to seal cracks on 37 local roads, according to a Hartford Courant article

That figure is just a third of the expected cost, the article says, thanks to a partnership with Meriden in which the towns combine their bids.

Crack sealing, with a flexible rubberized asphalt, prevents water from further deteriorating the road and extends its life.

Money for the project comes from an $11 million road bond, approved last fall the article says.
