Southington Joins Short List of CT Towns Moving to eRecording

The town on Thursday flipped the switch on eRecording, making it one of just a handful in the state to embrace the newly allowed technology for records keeping - a move that will help move forward efforts to establish a virtual town hall.

The move to establish a complete virtual town hall has taken another step forward in Southington.

The town on Thursday flipped the switch on a new eRecording program that will allow for all records to be safely, accurately and quickly into a detailed database, serving as a means to enhance productivity and streamline services.

"Everything is together, we've run three tests and as of right now, we are live," said Southington Town Clerk Leslie Cotton. "We are excited about the opportunity this brings and it was one of my last goals as clerk to see this go live."

The new technology, "eRecording" produced by Corporation Service Company, was approved by state legislators for use last year. Southington is now one of a handful of towns to use the system.

The company lauds the system as one that allows recording offices to reduce costs, eliminate payment errors, receive prompt payment and increase staff productivity. "Document submitters also benefit from shorter wait times, fewer document rejections, faster rejection handling and more secure transmission of documents," the company said.

Southington’s partnership with CSC will allow estate document submitters to electronically record documents quickly, easily, and securely. Any submitter with a computer, Internet connection and scanner/printer can now eRecord with the Town of Southington.

The move brings the town closer to establishing a virtual town hall, one of the goals brought to the community by both Cotton and Southington Town Manager Garry Brumback.

“We’re pleased to partner with the Town of Southington to expand its document recording capabilities,” CSC Vice President Mark Rosser said. “Every county in the U.S. can benefit from our electronic recording technology.”
