Town Aims to Provide a Curbside Debris Pick-Up

Officials spoke with state agencies Wednesday in an effort to bring a curbside debris pick-up to Southington.

Southington officials are pursuing a curbside pick-up for the town to help residents get rid of the excess debris left behind by the October snowstorm Saturday.

Town officials spoke with contractors Wednesday and have talked to the state about having an outside company come in to collect debris from residents and businesses throughout the community, Garry Brumback said Wednesday.

"After assessing the town, there is just too much debris left over from this storm," Brumback said. "The transfer station is open for brush drop off, but it looks like there is more debris than we can handle just through the transfer station alone."

Other towns across the state, including Berlin, have also made similar inquiries. that they would work with the New Britain Transfer Station to provide the service.

The Southington Police Department said on it's Facebook page that if successful, "the debris pickup will include brush, tree limbs, damaged construction material and other small debris."

In the interim, the Bulky Waste Transfer Station on Old Turnpike Road will be open Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. for brush only.
