'Are You Prepared for an Emergency?' Hosted by the Southington Fire Department

How prepared are you and your family for dealing with severe weather, power outages or road closures?  Do you or members of your family have special medical needs that emergency responders should be aware of?  These questions and many others will be answered at a Bagel Breakfast to be held at the Calendar House.

SEF Grant Awards Ceremony

The Southington Education Foundation will award $10,000 in grants to eight educators (from 5 different schools) who have secured grant funding for their creative thinking. Winning grants include: Give a Little...Get A.L.O.T! from Flanders Elementary School; LEGO Bricks in Space, Thalberg Elementary School; Electromagnetic Propulsion, SHS; and African Drumming, Kelley and South End Elementary Schools.

State of the Town Dinner
Thursday, Jan. 19, 5:30 p.m., at the Manor Inn on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.
The Southington Chamber of Commerce will host its third annual State-of-the-Town dinner, which is open to the public. The format will feature the nine newly-elected council members who will speak on their aspirations for the town for the next two years. The main address will be given by Council Chairman Edward Pocock III. A question and answer period will follow. Admission is $20 per person with registration at 5:30 and a buffet meal at 6 p.m. The program is sponsored in part by Lake Compounce and by the Chamber's Legislative Committee. Parents-4-A-Change

Parents-4-A-Change is having a meeting which is open to the public. This meeting will be a support only meeting. There will be no speakers. For parents with an opiate addicted child, this is an opportunity to spend some quality time talking and sharing with other parents, giving and getting support for you and your family. Seventh Annual Polar Plunge
Saturday, Jan. 21, 1 p.m. at the YMCA's
The annual Polar Plunge is back, one of the "coolest" events of the year. Bring your checkbooks to this annual fundraiser and enjoy the view as some of Southington's craziest residents brave the cold waters at Camp Sloper for a good cause.
