Vacancy for Planning & Zoning Commission Alternate Member

The term is set to expire on November 6, 2013.

A vacancy currently exists on the Planning & Zoning Commission for an alternate member to serve the balance of the current two year term expiring on November 6, 2013. The position must be filled by a registered democrat and is appointed by the Town Council pursuant to the Town Charter. The Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 7:30pm.

Registered Democrat????? WHY???? Can't a registered Republican or Independant who is qualified do the job. Sounds like discrimination to me.

I believe the reasoning is because the person who left was a Democrat and that is significant because these are elected positions. I'm not 100 percent on that though. I will ask the Registrar of Voters' Office on Monday when they are open.

The person's political affiliation should have no bearing on this
