What's Open/Closed on Labor Day

A general listing of business and municipal closings.

September 5 is a federal, state and local holiday in observance of Labor Day. State and local government offices are closed but some retail businesses are open.

The following will be CLOSED on Labor Day:

  • Banks
  • U.S. Post Offices
  • State Government Offices
  • State courts
  • Liquor Stores

The Connecticut Department of Labor TeleBenefits Call Centers will also be closed for initial claims. Automated telephone and Internet system for filing unemployment insurance continued claims will be available.

So What's Open?

  • Restaurants
  • Grocery Stores

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced that admission to state parks and beaches will be free for the Labor Day weekend. Some parks and beaches, however, may still closed due to storm damage. A an updated list of open parks can be found at www.ct.gov/Irene.

Local parks in Southington are all open today from sunrise to sunset. has closed for the year, but will be open today from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and next weekend from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. before it closes for the season.

Also, please note that Trash and Recycling Collection will be delayed one day this week.
