With Referendum Approaching, Erardi Aims to Educate

Southington is about to go to referendum for the second time on middle school renovations and in preparation for the vote on whether to bond $89 million, school officials are looking to educate the public.

Voters will once again be asked to approve spending for renovation of the DePaolo Middle School and Kennedy Middle School as the town goes back to referendum on March 19, but first the school district is making sure the voters have all the facts.

On Monday, March 11, the district and Southington Board of Education will hold a special press conference and information session as a way of reaching out to the public.

The projects would include renovate as new and environmental remediation of the two schools, which were found last year to have considerable levels of PCBs locked within the walls, window calking and other parts of the schools.

There is some good news though – although the project is over the $85 million approved by Southington voters, the taxpayers could end up fronting less of the bill.

The Southington Board of Education will be holding a press conference to share information on the upcoming middle school referendum on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The conference will be held in the Public Assembly Room at the Municipal Center, 200 North Main Street, Southington, Connecticut. Elected and appointed officials will be present to share additional construction information and to answer questions from the media regarding the referendum that is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
