Visions for Vacancies: Building a New Block on Center Street

There's an entire building up for grabs to the right bidder, right in the heart of downtown. If you had your way, how would you fill the opening?

Center Street businesses have seen a mix of success and failure in recent years, with some bringing large amounts of customers and others struggling to break even. With one building now completely up for grabs and a second being built next door, we want to know how you would fill it.

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning - Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.

Each week we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

So traveling to 88 Center Street, what store, restaurant, museum or recreational offering is Southington lacking and how would you rebuild the area? Give us your best take.
