Transparency in State Government

Blog by Rep. Rob Sampson (R-80): New Web Site promotes transparency in State Government.

I have always advocated for transparency in state government so the citizens of Connecticut can see exactly how their tax dollars are spent.  I am pleased to say that tracking what government spends has never been easier than now.

The state comptroller's office has just launched a site called Open Government.  on this site you can see how much money the state spends, who receives tax breaks and exemptions, the various sources of state revenue and how much money the state borrows just to name a few.

With the state of Connecticut facing the kinds of economic straits it has been it is more important than ever that this information is available to residents who demand accountability from their government.  In the last biennial budget Governor Malloy raised taxes a historic $2.6 billion while increasing spending another $1 billion.  If you want to know exactly what is being done with the taxes you pay more and more of, you should check out this site.
