Fundraising in the Making - Where Do You Start?

A friend and neighbor of mine stopped me today and asked me how to go about doing a fundraiser. She continued to explain that her father has been diagnosed with treatable cancer, the problem being he is waiting for his disability to be approved and he doesn't have any health insurance.

I was shocked to hear this and the first thought I had was "what if it was my father, brother, uncle, cousin etc. family member that had this problem?"

I told her let me check into this and see what I can find out to help this wonderful person. So my question to the reading audience, fellow bloggers and any one that would be interested:

1. Any advice on how to get a fundraiser going?

2. I was thinking about a sidewalk bake sale. What would be the best things to sell? And where would be the best place to do the sale that would not cost us anything to use?

3. Would any one out there be willing to give up their time and own money and/or baking skills to do this fundraiser?
