All-Day Kindergarten Approved for Southington, Despite Budget Cuts

The program survived a $1.1 million reduction to the original school district budget proposal.

The Southington school board decided to bring all-day kindergarten to Southington schools at its Thursday meeting, despite a $1.1 million cut in the school district's budget, the Hartford Courant reports.

The board approved an $84.42 million budget with a 6-2 vote, the Courant reports. The town council slashed more than million from the original budget proposal of $85.33 million a few weeks ago, the Courant said.

The district's K-5 talented and gifted program, SOAR, was one of the programs eliminated to accomodate the cuts, according to the the Courant.
