DePaolo Middle School June Students of the Month

Roundup of middle school achievers.

DePaolo Middle School is pleased to announce their Students of the Month for June. 

Sixth grade: Hannah Weir, Samantha Steeves, and Michaela Carrera were selected by their teams. Hannah is the daughter of Kevin and Peg Weir and earned first honors every semester this year. She volunteered at Alex’s Lemonade Stand at the Apple Harvest Festival and is in the orientation club for DePaolo. Hannah also is involved in gymnastics. Samantha is the daughter of Pamela and Michael Steeves and is also an honor roll student. She plays the flute in the school band and participated in the Young Author’s Program. Samantha also is a dancer. Michaela is the daughter of Michael and Kim Carrera and was recognized at a Principal’s Breakfast. Outside of school she plays ice hockey, roller hockey, and softball. Michaela also goes to volleyball camp.    

Seventh grade: Colton McInnis, Kristen Elliott, and Lauren Cafasso were selected by their teams. Colton is the son of Susan and Mike McInnis and was recognized at the Principal’s Breakfast in sixth and seventh grade. He is a peer advocate and is in the lego league and ski club. Colton is also a Boy Scout. Kristen is the daughter of Kathryn and David Elliott and is consistently an honor roll student. She is part of the Leadership Program and is a cheerleader at DePaolo. Kristen also plays the French Horn in the Wind Ensemble and school band. Lauren is the daughter of Joseph and Cindi Cafasso and volunteers at the Summit (group home). She is on the Student Council and is a part of the DePaolo Rescue Squad. Lauren also is a summer Bible instructor for her church.

Eighth grade: Julia Tinyszin, Jolanta Zajac, and Zachary Murillo were selected by their teams. Julia is the daughter of Lynne and Ihor Tinyszin and was recognized at a Principal’s breakfast for both citizenship and academic achievement. Julia assisted with DePaolo’s food and clothing drive and is a peer advocate. Julia is also on the YMCA swim team and is a member of the Starcraft Campers Club.  Jolanta is the daughter of Anna and Piotr Zajac and has been an honor roll student all three years of middle school. She is part of the yearbook committee and is in the Leadership Program at DePaolo.  Jolanta also goes to Polish School on Saturday. Zachary is the son of Ann and Luis Murillo and is an honor roll student. He is a part of the school newspaper, stock market club, and soccer team. Zachary also is a youth wrestling coach in Meriden. 

Unified Arts: Victoria Verrilli, Clairice Drexler, and Kaitlyn Budrow were selected. Victoria is the daughter of Eva and Tony Verrilli and is a second honor student. She has played the violin for three years and is a part of the art club at DePaolo. Victoria also is involved in gymnastics. Clairice is the daughter of Jeff and Kim Drexler and was a team captain for the Relay for Life. She is in the National Junior Honor Society, Mathcounts, and select strings at school. Clairice also plays for the Waterbury Youth Symphony Orchestra. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Evelyn and Jeffrey Budrow and plays viola in the school orchestra. She also was selected for the select strings group and was first chair in the viola section in the Southern Connecticut Regional Orchestra.
