Southington Historical Society Civil War Exhibit, Appraisal of Military and Historical items

On Saturday, April 9, as part of the ongoing Civil War Exhibit, the Southington Historical Society will host Connecticut artist DON TROIANI, collector of historical artifacts who is also a renowned military and historical artist.  Mr. Troiani will conduct an informal oral appraisal of Military items from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Society building located at 239 Main Street, Southington and will be assisted by several other appraisers including expert WILLIAM BARTLEY who will appraise early American Antiques of all types.  There is a fee of $5. for each item appraised or $10. for 3 items.  There is a maximum of 5 items or groupings per person.

Feel free to bring items from:

World War I & II :  German,  Japanese, U.S.,  helmets, hats, cloth patches and insignia, medals, equipment, uniforms, flags, weapons,  and equipment.

American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War:  uniforms, hats , equipment, letters , diaries, photographs, powder horns, drums, leather equipment, knives, flags, swords, guns, bayonets, canteens,  buckles , canteens, etc.

General Antiques from 1600 to about 1850, furniture, pottery and ceramics silver, brass work, copper, pewter, decorative items, glassware, paintings, documents and printed items etc.

 Don Troiani has often served as military and art consultant on various projects, such as the feature film, “Cold Mountain”, and the History Channel series “Civil War Journal.

Mr. Bartley is a long recognized authority on Early American Antiques of all types and has served as an expert for museums and auction houses.

 Because of his extensive knowledge of military artifacts, Mr. Troiani is regularly contacted by major museums and collectors from across the country to appraise collections.  He has appraised collections in the Connecticut State Capitol, Connecticut State Library, Atlanta Historical Society and Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans and many others.  And other of his artifacts have been loaned for exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution and our own Connecticut Museum of History as well as many other historical society and national museums.
