Half-Day Kindergarten in Southington Cut Due to Lack of Interest

Officials said not enough parents requested it to support the program.

Those who argued for the continuation of half-day kindergarten in Southington are apparently a vocal minority.

The Southington school district, in making the switch from half to full-day kindergarten for 2013-14, offered parents the choice of which program they would prefer. The district moved to offer full-day kindergarten but administrators said the half-day program would continue if the parents of at least 15 children requested it.

But fewer than 10 came forward by the mid-June deadline, according to a Record Journal article, and so the half-day program will not be continued.
