Justin Mirante Named Southington's Teacher of the Year

The Southington High School teacher will be recognized at the 2012-13 convocation.

The Southington Board of Education and School Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi Jr. released the following announcement on Monday afternoon.

Justin Mirante, Southington High School Technology and Engineering Education teacher, has been chosen as the 2012-13 Teacher of the Year. Mirante is a Berlin resident.

Mirante has bachelors degree is technology education and a Master’s degree in educational leadership. He is also currently studying for a post-Master’s degree in Technology and Engineering Education. He has been a teacher at Southington High School for the past nine years and in 2010, he was named director of the school’s Technology and Engineering Education Program.

Erardi said Mirante “is an advocate and inspiration for teaching and learning.” Aside from serving as a department chairperson, Mirante is a member of the School Improvement Team and Instructional Time Committee at Southington High School.

Mirante advises the Technology and Engineering Club and is a member of the Science and Engineering Fair committee. He has chaperoned numerous events for the high school students including prom, dances and class nights. He is the district coordinator for the Project Lead the Way Partnership Team and is the chair for the School to Career Committee.

In October 2011, Mirante presented at the annual Project Lead the Way Adminstrators and Counselors Conference at the University of New Haven.

Mirante has also developed and coordinated four career expos at Southington High School for both students and their parents. He was recognized by the Associate Builders and Contactors, an organization of over 600 commercial companies, for his role in developing a partnership between the high school and organization to help students find employment with the companies following graduation.
