Mystic Seaport’s Traveling Classroom program landed in the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms at St. Thomas School on March 23.

Educator “Mr. Ed” surprised the students with a cooler full of sea animals from hermit crabs to spider crabs!

Each student was taught how to handle the animals so they would not get hurt and each was allowed to pick them up and observe more closely. The classes have been studying sea life and were prepared with many questions for Mr. Ed.

Wyatt Byrne, celebrating his birthday, was selected to play the part of the hermit crab as the story was read to the children. Wyatt’s costume was covered with sea creatures that can be found on the ocean floor. The children got turns putting the Velcro creatures on his back of his costume.
