Patch Achievers: Erin and Emily Gibney

Each week we honor our best and brightest local children.

Name: Erin and Emily Gibney.
Grade
: 6th.
Age: 12.
School
: .

Accomplishment
: Erin and Emily gained notoriety in the community after the twins came together with friends to form the community service based group "Give Back Girls."

Key to awesomeness: The idea came to the twins as they were looking for a way to give back to the community and thought holding a bake sale would help raise money for local non-profit organizations throughout the community.

The girls didn't take leadership of the group, but made it a fun and creative way to use their energy to benefit the community said Kathy Panella. Their friends quickly joined and now support an quarterly bake sale with all proceeds going to the community.

Proceeds from the sales are distributed to Southington Community Services, the Southington YMCA, the Smart Start backpack drive and volunteering for Southington STEPS and Southington Youth Services on an as-needed basis

"A group of young, energized kids with drive and desire who want to become more involved with and to give back to their community beyond what their schools have to offer them," Panella said, describing the group.
