Patch Achievers: Key Club Standouts

Achievement: First Place in Gold Division for the Key Club's Annual Achievement Report.

A 2011 graduate, Nicole served as the president of the Southington High School Key Club this year and was recognized at the May 12 Board of Education meeting for her work in bringing a first place achievement award back to Southington, the first in over five years said Key Club Advisor Elizabeth Hosmer.

Nicole is a senior who will attend Fairfield University for nursing in the fall. She is a member of National Honor Society, Students Agaianst Destructive Decisions, the STEPS program, the youth group at Mary Our Queen Church and works at Macy's department store.

"It was a surprising recognition," Nicole said. "It is something that's a sense of pride for us and it shows the hard work put in by all of our officers this year. It's something we will be able to show off and the reports allow us to explain all the things we do as a club."

As  the Key Club's vice president, Hosmer said Daniel worked alongside Nicole every step of the way and helped lead the Key Club to receiving the valuable recognition.

Daniel, a senior, is also the vice president of the school's Business Leaders of America club and helped lead the school's bottle collection drives in recent years. He will be attending the UConn Honors Program at their Storrs campus in the fall and will major in Pre-Medicine.

His favorite Key Club event in four years of service was the annual Easter Egg Hunt, where he spent the last three years in a bunny suit serving as the East Bunny for area youth.

Achievement: Recognition for Early Bird Dues and Involvement in Key Club

Kyle will serve as the Key Club's vice president during the 2011-12 school year and previously served as the Lieutenant Governor for the region, assisting in representing the school among Key Club networks in New England.

A junior at Southington High School, Kyle also serves as the co-president of the Italian Club, is a member of National Honor Society, volunteers at St. Dominic's Church and works at McDonald's on Queen Street.

"These guys all played a role in our recognition this year," Hosmer said. "They were a group that didn't just do what was necessary, but if you gave them one piece of information, they'd take it and run with it. No matter what it was, they always went above and beyond their responsibilities and did it right."
