Schools Appear Poised to Name New Senior Special Education Coordinator

After interviewing two finalists on Wednesday, members appear to have come to a decision - but the name isn't likely to be released before May.

A permanent replacement for Frances Haag, the former Senior Coordinator of Special Education Services, appears imminent following a 2.5-hour Board of Education executive session Wednesday evening.

Board members met at the South End School for the purpose of conducting a final round of interviews after narrowing the field down to two candidates – both women whose names have not been released.

“We had a productive meeting but all we can say at this time is we will be naming a replacement during a future Board of Education meeting,” said Board Chairman Brian Goralski. “That’s all I can say at this time.”

Haag resigned from the position earlier this year, electing to retire following a long career, and was replaced in March by Holly Maiorano. Maiorano had been trained to replace Haag over a three-month period to help make the transition seamless, School Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi Jr. said.

Board members were unable to discuss whether Maiorano was a finalist.

The board will meet tonight and the agenda includes the naming of an interim Assistant Superintendent so it is unlikely that the board would vote on their final candidate before May.

A source close to the board said members have come to a decision, however.
