Science Teachers To Get Help from Southington Education Foundation

Southington's teachers and the Southington Education Foundation have created a virtual classroom for educators.

The Southington Education Foundation has partnered with teachers to create an online resource for science, techonology, engineering and math teachers.

The Virtual STEM University (VSU) is a web-based educational resource for teachers that offers easy access to innovative lesson design plans for the classroom. The uploaded lesson design plans foster greater aptitude in and commitment to STEM education in Southington’s classrooms, from kindergarten through the 12th grade, and are compatible to the Common Core, the controversial curriculum standards.

The VSU has established Southington as a national model for STEM resources and education, according to the foundation, that was founded in 2009. When the VSU website goes live this fall, teachers will have the ability to share ideas with one another and collaborate both within their schools and across the district.

The Southington Education Foundation created the VSU in conjunction with the Southington Public School District. Full details of the lesson plans available can be found on the foundation's website.
