It’s back – and there is no lack of interest from seniors looking to earn the title of “Mr. Southington.”

The senior class will host the first ‘Mr. Southington’ contest since 2008 on Friday evening, hoping to mix fun and competition with fundraising. The contest is open to all SHS senior boys, free of charge, said Dan Manware.

“This is an event that the Class of 2008 did and had some success, so we wanted to do it too,” Manware said. “A portion of the proceeds will go to help Greg Caron…it’s been an overwhelming time for his family and the Class of 2012 wants to help.”

The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Greg Caron Foundation, a fund set up after the Ellington-based Marine suffered serious injuries when he stepped on an IED. Caron lost both his legs, a finger and broke his collarbone in the incident.

Done in the traditional style of the annual “Ms. Southington,” the different is Mr. Southington will give the males the spotlight for a change. The competition will include a talent portion, formal wear competition, etc.

The “Mr. Southington” pageant will be held at Southington High School on Friday, March 16. The contest will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets to see the contest are $8 per person and will be available at the door.
