SHS Senior Corinne Horanzy to Sign with Hartford to Play Volleyball

The Southington High School volleyball star will join the Hawks this fall as she continues her scholastic and athletic career.

Another local scholar-athlete is finding that success in the classroom and on the playing field - or in this case the volleyball court - can truly pay off.

Lee McLean-Houle, secretary for the Southington High School athletic office, announced on Monday that Corinne Horanzy, an outside hitter with the high school's girls volleyball team, will be signing a letter of intent to play at the University of Hartford next year.

The senior Blue Knight star will officially sign her letter to play for the Hartford Hawks on intent today at 5 p.m. in the athletics office at Southington High School, McLean-Houle said in a press release on Monday. The University of Hartford is an NCAA Div. I college.

From the Southington High School athletics department:

Horanzy, a two time all-conference and two time first team All-State volleyball player with the Blue Knights was also recently named the 2012 Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) Pro-Grass Player of the Year in Girls Volleyball for the state of Connecticut.

Horanzy is the seventh Southington High School senior to commit to playing collegiate sports since the start of the school year.

Softball star Jordyn Moquin and teammate Rachel Harvey each announced their commitments earlier this year, announcing in November that they both will continue to play in college. Moquin committed to Mercy College on Nov. 26 and Harvey announced on Nov. 15 that she will be attending the University of Maine in the fall.

Four players from the baseball team have also announced their intentions to play beyond high school, coming together to sign their letters on intent on the same day.

. Sirois will attend Norwich Univeristy, Susi will play for the Blue Devils as Central Connecticut State University, Shaw will be going to Sacred Heart University and DiNello will be playing for Merrimack College.

Wish Horanzy or any of the other Southington High School seniors - congratulations and luck below.
