SHS Softball Advances to Class LL Championship

The 5-1 victory over No. 4 Masuk Monday puts the first-ranked Southington High School Blue Knights in the driver's seat for a CIAC championship.

The Masuk High School Panthers softball team gave up just five runs in their quest for a title, but those five runs came against the first-ranked Southington Blue Knights as the Knights knocked off the Panthers in Stratford Monday to advance to the CIAC Class LL Championship.

The Blue Knights saw stellar performances from Nicole Rossitto and Jordyn Moquin as Southington High School advanced to their first championship game since 2004.

The Blue Knights entered the game at 21-2, but faced a hefty challenge as the Panthers had not given up a run all postseason.

Masuk advanced to Monday’s semifinals after holding opponents scoreless for three straight games including victories of 17-0 over Staples High School, 9-0 over Cheshire High School and 1-0 over Bristol Eastern.

The Panthers scoreless defensive run was ended almost instantly, however, as Rossitto scored in the first and the Blue Knights added three more in the third.

The top-seeded Blue Knights are now in the driver’s seat for a title as they take on Amity this weekend for the Class LL title.

It’s been a strong run for Southington High School, which has outscored their opponents 29-2 so far in their run for a championship. The team defeated Norwich Free Academy 14-0 in the playoff opener before winning a tight 1-0 battle against Stamford in the round of 16, but the bats were hot again in a 9-1 victory over Danbury in the quarterfinal match-up.
