Girls Tennis Remains Unbeaten With Two More Victories

Take a look back at the week in sports at Southington High School.

And then there was one.

A loss by the Southington High boys track team left the Blue Knights girls tennis squad as the lone unbeatens in the spring. The baseball team climbed back to the .500 mark, while the golf team picked up its first victory.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Baseball
Southington 15, Hall 1 @ Hall

Matt DiNello had three hits including a homer, three RBI and two runs scored as the Blue Knights (5-5) rolled in West Hartford.

Matt Sirois had three hits and two RBI. Brett Susi pitched a five-hitter, walking four while striking out five.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Softball
Southington 6, Hall 1 @ Southington


Nicole Rossitto had two doubles, a triple and four RBI as the Blue Knights (9-1) picked up the win.

Lauren Zazzaro and Caitlin Downes each had two hits for Southington. Jordyn Moquin allowed four hits and struck out five for the Blue Knights.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Boys Lacrosse
Southington 19, Rockville 2 @ Southington


Kevin Cop and Pat Hamel each scored four goals as the Blue Knights (2-7) coasted at home. Cop had two assists and Hamel added four.

Kyle Macri and Jake Kligerman each scored twice and Billy Thomson had seven saves for Southington.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Girls Lacrosse
Southington 14, Berlin 7 @ Southington

Sarah Pelligrinelli scored five goals and Carolynn Keal added three as the Blue Knights (4-2-1) won at home. Taylor Hilliard and Jess Lee each had two goals, while Alexa Mitchell and Alexa Luponio had one goal apiece for Southington.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Boys Tennis
Southington 6, Rocky Hill 1 @ Southington


Three wins each in singles and doubles gave Southington (4-2) the home victory.

Joey Enright (No. 2, 6-0, 6-1) won for the Blue Knights in singles along with No. 3 Jon Sadusky (6-1, 6-3) and No. 4 Nate Mullins (6-1, 6-2).

Kevin Wormer and Gary Beaumont won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 doubles as did the No. 2 team of Kunal Kataria and Luke Pfanzelt. Zaya Oshana and Grant Ogrin won, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles.

Friday, Apr. 27 – Boys Volleyball
Southington 3, Oxford 0 @ Southington


The Blue Knights (8-2) bounced back from a loss to Newington with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 non-conference home victory.

Thursday, Apr. 26 – Golf
Farmington 157, Southington 164 @ Hawks Landing


Jared DeGumbia shot a two-over-par 37 and shared medalist honors for Southington (1-4) in the home loss.

Dave Valentukonis (41), Brandon Wheeler (42) and Eric Flood
(44) also scored for the Blue Knights.

Wednesday, Apr. 25 – Baseball
Southington 5, Farmington 0 @ Southington


Justin Robarge pitched a no-hitter under the lights at Fontana Field, striking out six. A single Farmington batter reached in the third inning to prevent a perfect game.

Matt Sirois had an RBI single and Dave Palladino added a two-run single for the Blue Knights.

Wednesday, Apr. 25 – Softball
Southington 30, Farmington 0 (5) @ Farmington


Jordyn Moquin pitched her third no-hitter of the season and the Blue Knights batted around three times in a 20-run second inning at Tunxis Mead Park.

Sydney Ferrante was 3-for-3 with a double, homer and five RBI and Alyssa Dumphy went 3-for-3 with two homers and five RBI. Nicole Rossitto had four hits including a double and five RBI and Kaitlin Paterson had five hits for Southington.

Wednesday, Apr. 25 – Boys Lacrosse
Conard 6, Southington 5 (OT) @ Conard


Pat Hamel had three goals and two assists as Southington rallied from a 5-0 halftime deficit before losing in West Hartford.

Tom Gallagher and Ryan Langdon also scored and Will Thomson had 27 saves for the Blue Knights.

Wednesday, Apr. 25 – Girls Tennis
Southington 6, Maloney 0 @ Southington


Courtney Race (No. 2, 6-0, 6-1) won in singles along with No. 3 Caroline Rodman (6-0, 6-0) and No. 4 Alex Barmore (forfeit) as the Blue Knights (5-0) won the rain-shortened match in Southington.

Jess Topper and Annette Kaminski won, 6-1, 6-0, while Andrea Rasimas and Susan Murphy were 6-0, 6-1 winners at No. 2. Taylor Grucza and Cassidy Race won, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.

Wednesday, Apr. 25 – Boys Volleyball
Newington 3, Southington 0 @ Southington


Dan Carbone had seven kills and eight digs for Southington in a three-game loss to the Indians. Game scores were 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.

Jeff Kolb had seven kills, Chris Sherwill had four kills and four digs and David Shaughnessy had two aces and four digs. Alex Zajda had 24 assists and four digs and Peter DelBuono added 10 digs for the Blue Knights.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Softball
Southington 4, Northwest Catholic 0 @ Northwest


Jordyn Moquin pitched a perfect game for the Blue Knights, striking out 14.

Moquin added an RBI single and Sydney Ferrante had a home run leading off the game for Southington.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Boys Track
Simsbury 87, Southington 63 @ Southington


Travis Daly won the shot put (44-7) and discus events (106-2) for the Blue Knights (3-1).

Stephen Barmore won the 100 (12.01 seconds), Anthony Oliva was first in the 300 hurdles (45.8) and Anthony Bonenfant won the triple jump (35-8 ¼) for Southington.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Baseball
Northwest Catholic 2, Southington 1 @ Southington


Craig Frobel pitched a five-hitter for the Blue Knights, walking two while striking out five. Jordan Gray doubled and scored on Phil King’s single in the fifth for Southington.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Boys Tennis
Southington 6, Platt 1 @ Platt


A doubles sweep paced the Blue Knights’ victory in Meriden.

Kunal Kataria and Luke Pfanzelt won, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1. Kevin Wormer and Gary Beaumont won, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 and Alex Angelillo and Zaya Oshana won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.

Singles winners were Matt Downes at No. 1 (7-5, 6-3), Jon Sadusky at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0) and Nate Mullins at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3).

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Golf
Southington 156, Hall 161 @ Rockledge CC


Brandon Wheeler shot a 1-under 35 as the Blue Knights picked up their first win of the season in West Hartford.

Tom Fischer shot a 39, while Jared DeGumbia and Dave Valentukonis each scored 41 for Southington.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Girls Lacrosse
Hall 17, Southington 9 @ Southington


Sarah Pelligrinelli scored five goals, while Carolynn Keal and Jess Lee each scored twice for the Blue Knights in the home loss.

Jordan Crowley had two saves and Allie Abacherli had nine saves for Southington.

Tuesday, Apr. 24 – Girls Track
Simsbury 108, Southington 42 @ Southington


Erica Kosienski and Cherraine Davis each won two events for Southington (2-2) in the home defeat.

Kosienski won the 100 (12.95 seconds) and the long jump (15-1 1/2) and was second in the 200. Davis won the shot put (41-0) and discus (114-0) events. The Blue Knights also won the 4x100 relay.

Monday, Apr. 23 – Boys Lacrosse
Old Lyme 9, Southington 6 @ Old Lyme


Kevin Cop scored three times for the Blue Knights in the non-conference road loss.

Ryan Langdon, Tom Gallagher and Joe Gentile also scored for Southington. Steven Hamel had four assists and Will Thomson had 20 saves for the Blue Knights.

Monday, Apr. 23 – Boys Tennis
Tolland 6, Southington 1 @ Tolland


The No. 2 doubles team of Kunal Kataria and Luke Pfanzelt picked up a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win for Southington’s only point in the CCC interdivisional match.

Monday, Apr. 23 – Girls Tennis
Southington 7, Fermi 0 @ Southington


Alejandra Gimenez won, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to lead the Blue Knights to the home win. Courtney Race (No. 2, 6-0, 6-0) also won in singles as did Caroline Rodman (No. 3, 6-0, 6-2) and Alex Barmore (No. 4, 6-0, 6-0).

Andrea Rasimas and Annette Kaminski won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-2. Jess Topper and Susan Murphy were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 2 and Taylor Grucza and Cassidy Race won, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3.

Monday, Apr. 23 – Boys Volleyball
Southington 3, Hand 0 @ Southington


Jeff Kolb had six kills, while Chris Sherwill had five kills and five digs for the Blue Knights in the 25-11, 25-16, 25-19 victory.

Peter DelBuono had five aces and seven digs and David Shaughnessy added four kills and four digs. Alex Zajda had 20 assists and Peter Masters had 10 assists. Mark Costanzo and Collin Kjellquist each had four kills for Southington.
