Southington, Amity Vie for Class LL Title Tonight

With both the Blue Knights and Spartans on a tear this postseason, either could walk away Friday night at CIAC softball champions.

The first-ranked Blue Knights have rolled over opponents in the playoffs, allowing just two runs in 28 innings during run this postseason, but all that could change when they match up against Amity on Friday night.

Southington enters the CIAC Class LL softball championship game with a 22-2 record, . The Knights, led by pitcher Jordyn Moquin, who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before it was finally broken up.

Masuk had gone three games without giving up a single run before Southington brought four home in the first inning.

But the challenge against the Amity High School Spartans could be an even more daunting one as the sixth-seeded underdogs have knocked off No. 3 Darien and No. 2 Westhill on their way to the championship game. The team has posted 25 runs while giving up just 9 over the course of four games so far.

Southington has outscored their opponents 29-2 so far in their run for a championship.

The team defeated Norwich Free Academy 14-0 in the playoff opener on May 29 and then won a tight 1-0 battle against Stamford in the round of 16. Since then, the games have been rather one-sided with hot hitting leading to a 9-1 victory over Danbury in the quarterfinal match-up and the 5-1 victory over Masuk.

The Class LL Championship game will be held at DeLuca Field in Stratford with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
