Southington CAPT Scores Up, CMTs Mixed

District maintained a high level of proficiency.

Standardized test scores are in for Southington, and while CAPT scores increased slightly, the district saw mixed results for CMTs. Scores still exceeded state averages.

The Connecticut Department of Education released the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) and the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) scores for all Connecticut school districts on Tuesday.

On the CAPT test, which is given to 10th graders, Southington students showed slight changes across the board. More than 75 percent of students reached goal in math (up from 71 percent in 2012), 66 percent in science (up from 60 percent), 65 percent in reading (down from 67 percent) and 72 percent in writing (up from 66).

However, the CMTs were a different story, with more scores showing a slight decline.

One sizable increase was seen in seventh-grade writing, where students attaining goal jumped from 70 percent in 2012 to 77 percent in 2013.

The CMTs are administered to all students from grade three to grade eight. Students are tested in math, reading and writing, and in middle school, they are tested in science as well.
