St. Thomas School Celebrates New Year with New Look

The newly painted and decorated school welcomed 152 students in grades

Students were all smiles as they entered the on Monday, backpacks in hand and ready to begin the 2012-13 school year.

The school was fully decorated with a fresh coat of paint and new look as staff and faculty welcomed the 152 students from throughout the area. It was a promising start to the school year, staff said, as students began the latest chapter in their education storyline.

The newest change for the students was being greeted by the new administrative assistant to the principal, Mary Alexander.

Alexander had previous school administrative experience at the St. Bridgid School in West Hartford, as Advancement Director and Student Services Director. She was hired after the June retirement of Irene Fojtik, who was secretary of the school for 24 years.

Joining our existing middle school grades are six new students: one student from South Korea, two students from the public school system and three students from .

All new and transfer students were oriented on the first day with the daily school prayer, scripture reading and pledge of allegiance.

Saint Thomas School will have full day sessions, Tuesday through Thursday this week and end the week with an early dismissal day on Friday beginning the long Labor day weekend.
