Students Benefit from Generous Gift

Four Southington residents have received scholarship money as they head off to college this month.

Four Southington High graduates have an even brighter future after being awarded scholarships by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain.

Shawn Lada, Zachary Niles, Emily Sherwill and Jillian St. John recently received money from the foundation to pursue their college degrees, along with 47 other graduates from across the state.

The foundation manages 40 various scholarships created by individuals or organizations designed to support high school seniors and college students with financial support in their pursuit of a college degree.

Chair of the Scholarship Committee James Jones said the foundation is excited to be able to work with donors toward offering educational opportunities that benefit local kids.

"Helping local students achieve their higher education goals is both rewarding and inspirational," Jones said. "Anyone who values education and wants to make a positive difference in the lives of current local students can do so as a donor to one of our many excellent scholarship funds."

The recipients could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.

The foundation connects donors who care with causes that matter in Berlin, New Britain, Plainville and Southington by raising resources and developing partnerships that improve quality of life.
