Senator Markley Helps Advance Bipartisan “Aging in Place” Bill

Hartford – State Senator Joe Markley (R-Southington) applauded the bipartisan vote in favor of Senate Bill 138, An Act Establishing A Task Force To Study “Aging In Place,” by the State Senate on Thursday, April 19th.

As a Ranking Member of the Human Services Committee, Sen. Markley said, “We have a growing population of elderly in our state and we need to start thinking about our social infrastructure and whether we are prepared to help these folks.”

“I am hopeful that the House of Representatives will now take a vote to ultimately pass this legislation,” said Sen. Markley.

S.B. 138 would establish a task force to study how the state can encourage aging in place. This study would focus on infrastructure and transportation improvements, zoning changes to encourage home care, improving nutrition programs and delivery options, strengthened fraud and abuse protections, expanding opportunities for home medical care, tax incentives, and other incentives for private insurance.

The bill passed the State Senate by a vote of 35-0 and will now be sent to the House of Representatives for a final vote.
