Record Progress in Education Led By Majority Republican Board of Education

Re-elect the six incumbent Republicans on The Board of Education who have worked tirelessly and with great dedication with Dr. Joseph V. Erardi, Jr., an extraordinary Superintendent of the Southington School District and in a fine spirit of teamwork with the minority party representation on the Board to continue to develop improvements in the Southington Schools which rank among the top ranked in the State of Connecticut.

Some of the achievements in our School District reported by Dr. Erardi:

  • For the 6th consecutive year, state tests in Elementary Mastery and High School Academic Performance, showed higher scores in Southington each and every year.

  • District Math scores are a model in the State of Connecticut.

  • Every year of the past 4 years, the number of students in Southington High School who have taken advance courses for college credit has increased each year as the number have risen from 50 to 500 students while tests scores have risen commensurately each year.
  • Project Lead The Way,(Tech Education), is recognized by the state of Connecticut as the finest such program in the state.

  • Our first U.S. Robotics Program: science, technology and engineering math, has been one of the top ranked in the United States and, for the third year, the finest in Connecticut.

  • During the time of all these accomplishments and more, the Superintendent of Schools, his administrative staff and faculty have worked with the Town Manager, Garry Brumback, the Board of Finance, the Town Council and other department and town officials to engineer a renovated to new Municipal Center and are in the process of the build-to-new DePaolo and Kennedy Middle Schools to 21st century standards.

  • And for the long term Southington's School District has taken on the District's planning, development and actually launching of Vision 2020, a new direction that focuses our vision clearly on graduating S.H.S. students who are individually prepared for post-high school pursuits in higher education, technological or other advanced professional training or jobs in their chosen fields so as to provide them a viable transition as they enter the economic environment and job market culture of the future.
  • These major accomplishments have been made in Education side by side with tremendous achievements by our town government in infrastructure improvements of roads and facilities, communications, technology and improved public service to our citizens during the past four years of a Republican administration.

What about the cost to taxpayers?

The average annual tax increases during the Republican majority administration's  fiscal years of 2011-2014 was 1.8% per year, with an actual decrease of 0.2% in Fiscal Year 2013-2014.

During the previous 4 year Democrat majority control ... Fiscal Years 2006-2010 ... the average annual tax increase was 3.8%.

And keep in mind the accomplishments of some m
ajor priority projects as enumerated in part above. But there'll be more about that in the coming week.  Visit us again.
