TERRI CARMODY

I have served on the Board of Education for the last six years. I have been committed to providing the students of Southington a quality education.

I have served as chairman of Curriculum and Instruction for six years. We have worked diligently to implement curriculum changes that align with the new common core standards mandated by the state. These changes will provide our students with the skills to develop higher order thinking skills, how to communicate in a clear, coherent manner both verbally and in the written form. All of this aimed at preparing our students with 21st century skills in order to compete in a global economy.

As a former teacher I believe my experience allows me to bring a perspective to the BOE that will enhance and promote these initiatives.

The BOE has done its best to keep class size down, enforce zero tolerance with drugs, bullying, alcohol and violence in our schools.

We are also consistently developing methods aimed at securing safety in our schools, having held town wide safety forums to keep an open dialog with parents.

I am a dedicated member of the BOE and will continue to work hard to always make the needs of our students a priority.

Vote to re-elect Terri Carmody on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Southington education needs the special talents, experience, wisdom and proven track record of our six Republican incumbents on the Board of Education to ensure that our community will continue to enjoy the great forward strides and progress we've made in education.  Our Vision 2020 is on graduating students who will be individually prepared for the world of the 21st century.
