(Updated) Aaron Hernandez Charged with Murder

The Bristol, Conn., native and brother of former Southington High football coach D.J. Hernandez is now facing murder charges in the death of a Massachusetts man.

New England Patriot tight-end Aaron Hernandez is facing charges of one count of murder in the death of Olin Lloyd, who was found dead in the former Patriot tight-end's neighborhood.

Hernandez, a Bristol native and brother of former Southington High School football coach D.J. Hernandez, also faces firearm charges for unlawful possesion of a weapon.

Hi family could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hernandez was taken into custody this morning at around 8:45 a.m. after a pair of law enforcement officials showed up at his home. He was lead out of the house wearing red sweatpants and a white t-shirt drapped over his upper body. He was placed in a North Attleboro police cruiser and taken to the police station.

Later in the day, Hernandez was taken from the North Attleboro police station to Attleboro District Court.

After he was arraigned, Hernandez was reportedly take to the Bristol County Jail. Arrangements were made for his arrival during the day, according to FOX-25.

UPDATED: 2:20 p.m.

The family of Odin Lloyd is the Attleboro Court House waiting for the arraignment to begin.

FOX-25 is reporting Hernandez will be transferred to the Bristol County Jail in North Dartmouth.

UPDATED: 1:40 p.m.

Hernandez has left the North Attleboro police station in a police car headed for Attleboro District Court.

UPDATED 10:25 a.m.

The New England Patriots are reporting on Twitter that Hernandez has been released by the team. Last year, Hernandez signed a multi-year contract with the team for $40 million, including a $12 million signing bonus.

In a statement released on their website, the Patriots said:

A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

FOX-25 is also reporting that the Bristol Sheriff office is preparing for an inmate arrival.

UPDATED 9:50 a.m.

Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter is confirming Hernandez was taken into custody by Massachusetts State Police and North Attleboro and will be arraigned later today in Attleboro District Court. Sutter said he will be making a statement after Hernandez's court appearance.

The New England Patriots are expected to issue a comment later in the day through the Associated Press, according to a FOX-25 report.
