Chris Rosenberg and Kelly Browning scored the overall wins in the five-mile during the Southington Apple Harvest Festival Road Race on Sunday, but the real news comes in the number of participants as the event saw its largest turnout to date.
John Myers, exeutive director for the Southington-Cheshire YMCA, said the annual even drew 1,500 participants and set a record in its 14th year. The event saw more than 350 runners in the five-mile event and more than 800 in the 5K race alone.
"It was another successful event and each year, it continue to grow," Myers said.
Winners of the annual event included New Britain resident Chris Rosenberg in the five-mile with a time of 25:26 and 5K winner Mark Hixson of Simsbury in a time of 16:49. Glastonbury resident Kelly Browning finished the five-mile course first among females with a time of 35:03 and Brittany Heninger, of Bridgeport, finished the 5K first for the women with a time of 19:27.
