SHS Blue Knights Beat Mercy, Win 15th State Championship

The Blue Knights finished at 25-1 over the season and it took just one run Sunday for Southington High School to take home the championship.

It took just one run - scored by Lauren Zazzaro in the second inning - for the Southington Blue Knights to bring a softball championship home to Southington High School.

Southington pitcher Jordyn Moquin threw a complete game shutout, striking out the final batter of the game as the Blue Knights recorded a 1-0 victory over the Mercy Tigers Sunday evening.

The victory marked the first time since 2004 that the Blue Knights have finished their season with a state championship victory. The team finished with a 25-1 record on the year.

The Blue Knights took the lead early with a hit scoring Zazzaro and it proved the only run that Southington would need as Moquin was nearly flawless in the victory.
