Southington South Little League Team Heads to State Championship

Undefeated All-Stars are the first team since 1969 to advance to states.

Editor's Note: Alex Partyka was mistakenly left off the list of players. He is also a member of the team.

The Southington South 9/10 Little League All Stars have already done great things this season by scoring District 5 and Section 1 championship titles. Now, the team of 9 and 10-year-olds will head to the state championships this weekend.

Southington South topped off an undefeated season Tuesday evening with a 15-4 win over Wilton at the McCabe-Waters Little League Complex in Bristol to claim the Section 1 title and earn a spot in the state championship, according to this announcement.

Southington South will first face Guilford in a best 2 out of 3 series planned for Sat., July 27 and Sun., July 28 at 3 p.m., and Tues., July 30 at 5:30 p.m. (if necessary) at Adams School, 233 Church St., Guilford.

The team is made up of Daniel DiCorpo, Dylan Olson, Nicholas Buonanni, Jake Napoli, Drew Belcourt, Michael Gurzenda, Manager Chris LaPorte, Jake Neuman, Vincent Spizzoucco, Sean Olson, Jackson Cardozo, Shane LaPorte, Colby Powell, Cole Matusik and Alex Partyka. It is coached by Erik Olson, Chris Matusik and head coach Chris LaPorte.

"I don't know what it is about this team, but it doesn't matter what the score is, they just want to play baseball. They don't look at the scoreboard. We hope this run continues this weekend at States," LaPorte said.

This is first time since 1969 that a Southington South team has advanced to a state championship and the team would welcome the support of local fans (wearing maroon) at the games!
