Wait for It: Weather Wreaking Havoc for Blue Knights Championship Bid

With more snow in the forecast, CIAC officials have postponed the Class LL championship game between Southington High School and Fairfield Prep until later in the week.

Hurry up and wait.

That's been the motto over the past several days as the Southington Blue Knights have seen postponement after postponement and have patiently awaited their opportunity to finish off a run towards a CIAC Class LL football championship.

Now, as winter weather threatens to drop snow on the state again overnight, members of the Blue Knights football team are finding themselves waiting again.

Southington School Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi Jr. and officials with the CIAC have announced that after waiting all weekend for their chance to compete, the team will now be left to ponder their recent success until Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. when the game will finally take place.

The delays are hardly ones that the team has looked forward to. Although the postponed games provide plenty of added preparation time, the Blue Knights have been anxious to continue their run after dominating the first two playoff games.

For the fourth-ranked Blue Knights, offensive power has sparked their success as they have outscored opponents 97-14 en route to two blowout victories. The road to the title game has included a 52-14 win over Norwich Free Academy and a 45-0 performance over eighth-ranked Ridgefield.

The third and final playoff game may not be as easy, with underdog Fairfield Prep already having pulled off two upsets, however.

The #7 Jesuits beat second-ranked Glastonbury 33-23 before moving on to take a nail-biter 29-28 over the #6 West Haven.

Thursday's Championship contest, to be held at West Haven High School, will begin at 6:30 p.m.
