"Twice as Nice" the Theme as Unique Boutique Fundraiser Returns

The annual shopping and dinner is coming back to the Aqua Turf on April 30, with all proceeds benefiting the less fortunate in Southington.

The motto is “twice as nice at a really good price” and with all proceeds of the second-hand clothing and jewelry deals going to a good cause, it is a fitting one.

For five years, Unique Boutique and Southington Community Services have paired together to host their annual Unique Boutique event to benefit volunteer operations. The even returns this year with a special dinner and shopping extravaganza at the in Plantsville on April 30.

“People have been so generous and very supportive of this event since it started four years ago,” said Kaye Davis, the event organizer, . “I think in Southington there is a perception that we don't have a need here, but there is actually a tremendous need, especially these days.”

The program features dinner at 7 p.m. and a variety of shopping, including a collection of gently used women’s and men’s clothing, accessories, handbags, shoes, jewelry and raffles.

The concept was created after Southington Community Services Director Janet Mellon and other local volunteers attended a Salvation Army conference in Dallas almost six years ago. The conference talked about unique fundraising opportunities.

“After Charlotte Jones-Anderson (vice-president of the Dallas Cowboys) talked about the event they did, I waited outside the room and talked with her and (Cowboys owners) Gene and Jerry Jones regarding how we could do this in our town,” Mellon said. “I continue to follow their advice every year and it has been a wonderful event.”

All proceeds from this event will be donated to for emergency assistance, food baskets and energy assistance for those in need in our community.

The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can only be purchased in advance at a cost of $32. No tickets will be available at the door. To reserve your place at the event, call (860) 628-3761 by April 23.
