We support all proposed changes, especially the updated financial levels. We simply can not…Read More understand people refusing to accept that a $5,000 level was outdated 10 years ago and that making operations easier is better management. These seem to be the people who also oppose any management changes. We prefer progress to petty partisan bickering from the minority party.

FYI - The FIRE Dept outside review did NOT mention anything about CHARTER REVISION simply because it…Read More was NOT part of their scope of work. They were NOT here to review the Town, just the operations of the Fire Department from the Chief down. Note they also said nothing about the quantity or QUALITY of the existing members of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
BUT their 30+ recommendations were sadly amazing for a department of this size. BAD management?

Anyone would realize that the charge of the outside firm evaluating the Fire Dept should NOT mention…Read More the Charter Revision, but they could have mentioned in their 30+ recommendations to change the structure of the chain of command! Art, you better talk to your puppet master for a better excuse to change this.
I also believe in centralizing management and the organizational chart does look impressive. Lets look at reality. With the proposed change, if the chief wants to make a meaningful change to the department, he must run it by the "citizen's" group for their advise, then the Town Manager, and then the Town manager must run it by the Council for their approval. Guess what, we added 2 more steps to the process. I really don't call that centralized efficient government! The Charter revision commission should have disbanded the Police and Fire Commission and truly have a more centralized government, not this smoke & mirror pretend commission.
Believe me, if this passes, citizens would be wasting their time going to the 'advisory' group to request any change in the departments. We either keep it the way it is or truly make the change for and disband the commissions for a centralized management.
I realize that I am opposing this change as proposed and I quess that is a bad thing to do for republicans in charge. They along with Art Cyr must march to the same beat as their puppet master. The Dems can continue to think for themselves!
